The British Railways Mark 1 was the first standardised design of railway carriage in the UK. Developed and built by British Railways, this type of carriage was only used by BR during its service life. Whilst most were scrapped, many carriages have been preserved on the numerous heritage railways in the UK, including the West Somerset Railway, which is featured in Train Sim World with this type of carriage. The Tourist Standard Open (TSO) and Brake Standard Open (BSO) variants are included with the West Somerset Railway route.

The Mark 1 BG is included in the Northern Trans-Pennine route along with Mark 2 coaches.
